Yi-Chang Chiu

Founder & President

When he’s not busy training the next generation of talented civil engineers at The University of Arizona, Yi-Chang splits his time between his research on transportation systems and his work as founder and president of Metropia. In bringing these two professional areas together, he hopes to advance research and transform theories into real-world solutions. An Associate Professor of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, Yi-Chang is a renowned researcher and innovator in the area of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and incentive-based active demand management. He is also a principal developer and consultant to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Yi-Chang has a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his MsC from the National Chiao-Tung University in Taiwan and a BsC from National Taiwan University, both also in Civil Engineering. Yi-Chang is also a dedicated self-learner on the piano. Although he no longer has the time to practice for three hours each day, he still dreams of putting on his own recital with a repertoire of his choosing before he dies.
